Little Books for Little Cooks ~ Just Enough Carrots

Little Books for Little Cooks Little Books for Little Cooks is a bi-monthly feature that focuses on creating some edible fun with your little one.   We will share a fun book to read with your little one along with a cooking activity to do that ties in with the featured book. Sometimes there may be actual cooking involved…and sometimes just fun!

Summary: Little Rabbit goes shopping with his mom at the grocery store and learns lots about math while he is there.

This book also has some additional parent/child activities at the end of the book ~ great for teaching compare/contrast and math concepts.

IMG_4197 You’ll Need:

  • a plate
  • a small clay pot
  • mini carrots
  • parsley
  • toothpick
  • can of chick peas
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
To Make:
  1. Cut the parsley into small sprigs.
  2. Poke holes into the tops of about 10 carrots using the toothpick
  3. Stick a piece of parsley into the top of the carrots.
  4. Drain the chick peas and put them into a food processor or blender. Add the olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and cumin. Blend til smooth {you may need to add a little warm water a teaspoon at a time to help it blend}.
  5. Put the hummus into the clay pot and ‘plant’ your carrots in the garden.
  6. Eat and enjoy!
